Early Intervention Program
We provide Auditory-Verbal early intervention services to families
with newborn babies through to the time the child enrols in Year
1 of compulsory schooling. Our service is available from the
time of diagnosis of the child’s permanent hearing impairment
(mild through to profound) which requires the child to use hearing
aid/s and/or cochlear implant/s.
- An Individual Education
Plan (IEP) is developed for each
child at least twice each
year. The IEP is written after consultation
with and input from you, the parents. A standardised
curriculum is used to select goals covering all
areas of your child’s
development
- Informal monitoring
and assessment is constant and ongoing and
your child’s
progress and educational outcomes are discussed
weekly with you, the parents
- Children are formally assessed
using standardised tests at least once a year. These assessments
(standardised on children with normal hearing) are conducted over a range of
areas of development
including language, speech, cognition,
social and emotional skills and communicative competence. As well as indicating
the child’s
current level of development, these
assessments identify areas needing
specific attention
