The Hear and Say Centre today

Currently the Hear and Say Centre provides the following services for over 220 children:

Our services:

1. Warm, family atmosphere

1. Fully equipped audiological facilities

1. Purpose designed building including therapy rooms, indoor and outdoor play areas, training auditorium for parents and professionals and for meetings, offices and waiting area

1. Auditory-Verbal early intervention program

1. Full cochlear implant program to 12 years of age

1. MAPping and assessment to 18 yearsand over

1. Outreach program for rural and regional areas including videoconferencing and webcam

1. Additional Centres at the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Darling Downs and North Queensland

1. Language Enriched Playgroup Program

1. Transition program to facilitate children's integration into regular school settings

1. Educational support for professionals pertinent to the child's education

1. Parent education and support

1. Research programs as a supporting party of Co-operative Research Centre for Cochlear Implant and Hearing Aid Innovation

• Current staff includes:Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf, Audiologists, Early Childhood Teachers and Development/Fundraising staff

Funding base:

1. 20% Education Queensland Grant; Commonwealth Special Education Non-Schools Organisations Grant and Disability Services Queensland Grant.

• 80% Donations, fundraising, grants, trust funds, community service groups, corporate support.

Future plans

1. To better cover the wide geographical area serviced by the Hear and Say Centre (close to two thousand square miles)

1. Stabilisation of ongoing funding

1. Expansion to areas of rural and regional cluster groups and families

1. Development of expanded Parent/Infant programs to accommodate new referrals from universal neonatal hearing screening

1. Extend overseas program

1. Extend our Professional Auditory-Verbal Therapy education program

1. Cochlear implant education program for professionals

1. To advocate for Australia-wide universal infant hearing screening
