Level I (Introductory Level)

• History, philosophical aspects, professional practices and research with regards to Auditory-Verbal Therapy

• Audiology

• Auditory development

• Auditory function

• Paediatric hearing testing

• Hearing aids

• Language development

• Speech development

• Cognitive development

• Teaching listening to older children

• Surgical techniques for cochlear implantation

• Interactive panel sessions with professionals, parents, Hear and Say Centre students with impaired hearing

Level 2 - 2009 - Monday 3 - Friday 7 August
Level II (Intermediate Level)

Topics include:

• Auditory Development – Level II

• Language Development – Level II

• Developing Speech Skills – Level II

• Speech Acoustics

• Child Development

• Goal Setting – practical workshop

• Working with Parents and Infants – practical workshop

• Cochlear Implants – advanced technology, speech processing, MAPping, trouble shooting with a practical element

• Candidacy for cochlear implants – complex cases

• Social work/counselling in a cochlear implant team

• Implications for management of otitis media and otitis externa

• Assessment of Listening, Speech and Language – practical workshop

• Demonstration teaching, taking active role in a lesson, practical teaching

• Interactive roleplay

• Critique of teaching tapes

• Integration into regular schools - support and liaison

• How to set up an Auditory-Verbal Centre/Program – a practical approach

• Advanced surgical techniques
